Stonewall’s Role Models Programme is a one day course for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. Staff Development have arranged for the course to be delivered in-house at York St John University, on Wednesday 21 May.

The following is an extract from Stonewall’s website.

What is the Role Models Programme?

Stonewall, and hundreds of leading employers across the UK, understand that people perform better when they can be themselves and at Stonewall, we know exactly how important role models are to our sense of self. This one day programme, for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff at all levels in an organisation, is designed to help you think about what it means to be yourself in the workplace and how you can be a more effective role model.

Programme aim

To promote increased visibility of LGB role models, seen to take an active role as change agents in the workplace.

The objectives of the programme are

  • For you to develop an understanding of what it means to be yourself in the workplace
  • For you to develop an understanding of what it means to be an LGB role model in the workplace
  • For you to identify achievable ways to step up as an LGB role model in your workplace

Despite the confidence of some prominent lesbian, gay and bisexual business leaders and public servants in being open about their sexual orientation, lesbian, gay and bisexual people remain under-represented at every level in many organisations. Numerous employers are now focusing on the career development and ambitions of their lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. This one day programme provides a unique opportunity to work with other lesbian, gay and bisexual staff to explore these themes.
