Studying Abroad – Norway – Fresher’s Week
Freshers – Norwegian style!
As the YSJ semester is well under way I thought it would be a good opportunity to write the first blog sharing our experiences so far from our semester abroad in Norway! The semester here started a few months ago and what a months it has been! From climbing some of the highest mountains in Norway, boat trips along the coast, even to eating breakfast at our lectures house – its safe to say it has been an amazing experience!
One of the things the Norwegians are known for are their parties… we were not disappointed! The semester start festival was amazing (freshers week) including an outdoor cinema, music festival and the obligatory Norwegian nights out! This was a great opportunity to be freshers again, have loads of fun and get to know other people and more about the Norwegian culture.
The course we are studying is Norwegian Society, Education and Culture. The course is based very much upon the way they believe children learn – through experience! So far our lectures have included going and building shelters and fires in the forest, learning about the formation of the school system and the place of education in society today and in history.
We are about to go on our final residential and have our first placement week in school, with a focus upon comparing the two education systems and reflecting upon our own practice. But for now we hope you enjoyed YSJ Freshers 2016!
