New Study Development workshop!

Our open Study Development workshop series has got off to a great start, with a very well-attended brand new workshop designed especially for first years: ‘What’s different about uni? Introduction to independent learning’. We noticed that the expectations of higher education study are often implicit rather than explicit, so that many students – especially those from ‘non-traditional’ backgrounds – are left confused about how best to meet the demands of their course. The session was therefore designed to help our new intake to manage the jump from college to uni, by clarifying how to use their time, approach further reading and research, and begin to think critically. Gabby Wilson, the Student Union’s Vice President for Education, co-delivered it with us, and her suggestion to use the interactive quiz programme Kahoots! was a hit with the students. They commented that the session was ‘fun and interesting’, ‘clear’, ‘informative’ and ‘engaging’. Many thanks again to Gabby for her excellent input, and we look forward to further collaboration with the SU!
