JOB:
Engineering Marketing and Sales Specialist

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS PHOTO AS YOUR YSJ SNAPSHOT?
Since creating a website, bringing in amazing clients, organising all marketing documentation, planning exhibitions, and so much more, I’ve chosen this image to reflect how much I’ve accomplished since leaving YSJ. It represents the growth I’ve experienced, as well as the confidence I’ve gained in myself and my ability to pursue challenges outside of my comfort zone. I will forever be thankful for this journey and for my lovely tutors who guided me along the way.
WHAT ARE YOUR FONDEST MEMORIES OF YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY?
My fondest memory is going back to freshers and meeting all my incredible friends.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES?
I chose YSJ because of its strong focus on pastoral care and the welcoming atmosphere it offered. From the moment I visited, I could feel the sense of community and support that the university provides. The environment felt personal and nurturing, and I knew it would be a place where I could thrive, both academically and personally. The caring nature of the staff and the close-knit feel of the campus made it the perfect choice for me.
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE COMPLETING YOUR STUDIES?
Since completing my studies, I’ve been working at an engineering company as a Marketing and Sales Specialist. My role has involved working closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure we provide exactly what they require – and often more. I’ve also been responsible for marketing the company and its branding from scratch, helping to establish a strong and consistent identity in the market.
In addition to my marketing responsibilities, I’ve been able to bring my events experience into the role, starting to plan exhibitions and other events for the company. The skills I gained through my Events Management course have been invaluable, as they’ve allowed me to approach these tasks with confidence and organization. I’m excited to continue building on these skills, especially as I work with clients to create memorable and impactful experiences at these events.
Looking to the future, I plan to continue growing in my role, further developing both my marketing and event planning expertise. My time at the University played a huge role in getting me to where I am today. The practical experience I gained through my studies, especially the event planning modules, gave me the confidence to take on challenges and pursue opportunities outside of my comfort zone. The knowledge and skills I learned in creating, managing, and executing events have proven to be incredibly valuable in my current role and will continue to shape my career moving forward.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC COURSE?
I chose Events Management because I’m a people person with a strong sense of organisation. I thrive on planning and organising lavish events, even down to themed evenings for my friends. Being a social butterfly, I absolutely love attending events, and that inspired me to want to be behind the scenes, helping to create those memorable experiences for others. The idea of bringing people together and making events come to life really excited me, and I knew that Events Management would allow me to channel both my passion for people and my love for planning.
WHAT WERE THE BEST FEATURES OF YOUR COURSE?
The best feature of the course for me was definitely the practical planning of the events module. I loved coming up with concepts and turning them into reality, whether it was brainstorming ideas, organising logistics, or seeing everything come together. It was hands-on and gave me a real sense of what it takes to create a successful event from start to finish. By far, this was the module where I learned the most and gained the most valuable experience throughout the entire course.
WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CURRENT STUDENT, OR ONE ABOUT TO GRADUATE?
My advice to a current student would be to really enjoy the experience, as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don’t rush through the journey; take the time to soak in everything – the lessons, the friendships, and the challenges. Embrace all the opportunities that come your way, whether it’s through your studies, extracurricular activities, or simply stepping out of your comfort zone.
