We are celebrating 4 years since we first launched the Alumni Journeys webinar series! Since we first launched the first webinar series in 2022, we have published 27 webinars and heard the stories of 40 alumni.
For the 2025/2026 academic year, we are excited to announce a new selection of webinars. From working at an international school in Dubai to a comedian and children’s author, we are excited to share the wide range of alumni stories with you.
Starting in October 2025, we will be premiering a webinar on the first week of every month across the academic year. Each webinar consists of our alumni talking about their time at York St John and what they have been up to since graduating. Each webinar features a Q&A session from one of our academics.

Let’s take a look at this year’s schedule:
YSJ LONDON NETWORK
In March 2025, we hosted the second YSJ London Network at The Green Man, Marylebone. We welcomed back alumni Alasdair Beckett-King (Class of 2025), Ozzie Pullin (Class of 2010) and Tia Welsh (Class of 2019). Hosted by Professor Robert Edgar, the three alumni participated in a careers panel discussing their various careers in the creative industries.
We launch this year’s webinar series with the audio recording of the panel discussion. Hear about Alasdair’s career as a comedian and children’s author, Ozzie’s career as a commercial and music video director, and Tia’s career as a script reader and writer.
HARRIET MERCER – MARKETING AND EDUCATION
Harriet graduated from York St John University in 2019 with a degree in English Literature. Since graduating, Harriet completed a Masters degree at the University of Sheffield and now works in a pastoral role in an international school in Dubai.
Alongside this, Harriet has an established career in marketing and runs the successful book and lifestyle Instagram account @literaturegrad
HUSS MAHMOOD – BUSINESS OWNER AND MARKETING SPECIALIST
Huss graduated from York St John University in 2022 with a degree in Marketing Management. Since graduating, Huss has established his own business, Bespoke Marketing Ltd. Based in York, Huss has numerous clients in the UK and Dubai. Since starting his company, he has worked with The Yorkshire Sock Company, Principal, and Charlotte Tilbury.
BENJI HAMILTON-RHYS – PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Benji is a Physiotherapy graduate from York St John University and completed his degree in 2023. Since graduating, Benji has worked as a physiotherapist in the NHS and is currently a Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapist.
During his time at York St John, Benji was the Vice President, Squad Captain of the YSJ Boat Club.
CHRIS RULTON – HEAD OF GROUP GOVERNANCE, RISK & COMPLIANCE
Chris Rulton graduated in 2004 with a degree in Sport & Exercise Science. Since graduating, Chris has had a broad range of jobs and is currently Head of Group Governance, Risk & Compliance at Family Fund.
