IF YOU STUDIED YOUR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME AT YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES, DID YOU GO ON TO POSTGRADUATE STUDY?
No
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS PHOTO AS YOUR YSJ SNAPSHOT?
The picture I have chosen is from a career day that YSJ London campus put on recently. I was asked to attend as an alumni. This was a great honour to do, both as a proud alumni but also crucially to be able to help in any way with current students and their journeys, It is a great initiative and benefit YSJ run to have alumni so involved.
WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND YSJ TO SOMEONE?
YSJ is a fantastically forward thinking university and has an extremely open mindset to learning. Expanding to include a London campus, as well as the combination of academic and industry led MBA modules is an exceptional way to give a wide breath of knowledge to a wide audience.
The staff and cohort during my studies and through my continued interactions with them, are knowledgably, helpful and all want the best for students.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES?
The choice of study was clear for me and my MBA with YSJ. It gave a wide breadth of subject matter that equipped me well for success in the corporate but also academic world. From innovation and change through to organisational strategy, it set me up for a career path in many areas.
The combination of course leaders with academic and industry backgrounds was also a key point that attracted me to YSJ.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC COURSE?
The MBA was always something I wanted to study as a post graduate, and was part of a continued learning strategy. This particular MBA gave the key areas of interest to me, specifically in change and innovation management as well as entre / inter preneurship ability.
WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CURRENT STUDENT, OR ONE ABOUT TO GRADUATE?
Take everything in, gain as much knowledge as you can in many areas as you can, this will enable you to think widely and differently. Seeking other peoples viewpoints, assistance and challenges is a gift and a superpower – embrace it!
WHAT WERE THE BEST FEATURES OF YOUR COURSE?
The interaction with piers from multiple and varied industries was so beneficial. It brought many different viewpoints on challenges and made me and my cohort think critically and from different perspectives. These different industries bring a fresh way to look at regular issues and in turn bring fresh solutions.
HOW DID STUDYING AT YSJ HELP IN YOUR CAREER SEARCH/SUCCESS/CURRENT ROLE?
Studying at YSJ helped me in my career and current role in two principal ways.
Firstly it gave me the ability to think broadly and critically, this has helped me to find solutions to complex issues and turn my hand to areas I may not be the expert in at the start.
Secondly, it gave me the confidence to seek out knowledge and use it to grow myself, others and teams. Whether that be knowledge through reading, research or through the insight of others.
