IF YOU STUDIED YOUR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME AT YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES, DID YOU GO ON TO POSTGRADAUTE STUDY?

No.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS PHOTO AS YOUR YSJ SNAPSHOT?

I chose these pictures because each one represents a different but important aspect of my journey. The professional portrait reflects my growth, confidence, and readiness to engage in formal academic and professional environments. The group photo highlights the strong sense of community, diversity, and collaboration that shaped my experience, showing the friendships and networks I built along the way. The final portrait presents a more personal and authentic side of me, capturing individuality, approachability, and self-awareness beyond formal settings. Together, these images tell a complete story of my development, academically, professionally, and personally, during my time as a student.

WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND YSJ TO SOMEONE?

I would recommend York St John University because it offers more than just academic learning, it provides a genuinely supportive and welcoming environment. The lecturers are approachable and invested in students’ success, and the university encourages personal growth alongside professional development. YSJ also values diversity, community, and real-world experience, which helped me build confidence, meaningful relationships, and practical skills. Overall, it’s a place where students are supported, challenged, and prepared for life beyond university.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES?

I chose York St John University because its International Project Management programme combined strong academic teaching with practical, real-world experience. What particularly stood out to me was the opportunity for a placement, which allowed me to apply what I learned in class to real projects and professional settings. The university’s focus on employability, support, and hands-on learning aligned perfectly with my career goals and made it the right choice for me

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE COMPLETING YOUR STUDIES?

Since completing my studies, I have recently finished my placement, where I gained practical experience working on real projects and applying project management principles in a professional setting. Since then, I have been focused on developing myself further in project planning by strengthening skills such as scheduling, coordination, risk assessment, and stakeholder communication. I am continuing to build my professional experience and confidence while preparing for the next step in my career within project management.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC COURSE?

I chose the International Project Management course because it aligns closely with my interest in managing projects in diverse, global environments. The course offered a strong balance between theory and practical application, helping me develop essential skills such as risk management, leadership, and stakeholder communication. I was particularly drawn to how the programme prepares students to work across cultures and industries, which reflects my career goals and desire to work on impactful projects internationally.

WHAT WERE THE BEST FEATURES OF YOUR COURSE?

The best features of my course were the strong balance between theory and practical application, which helped me understand how project management works in real-world settings. The course covered key areas such as risk management, leadership, and stakeholder engagement, all taught with an international perspective. Another major highlight was the placement opportunity, which allowed me to gain hands-on experience, apply my learning in a professional environment, and build confidence for my future career. The supportive lecturers and collaborative learning environment also made the course engaging and rewarding

HOW DID STUDYING AT YSJ HELP IN YOUR CAREER SEARCH/SUCCESS/CURRENT ROLE?

Studying at York St John University played a key role in supporting my career development. The course gave me practical, industry-relevant skills, particularly in project management, which helped me feel prepared and confident when applying for roles. The placement opportunity allowed me to gain real-world experience, strengthen my CV, and understand professional working environments. In addition, the support from lecturers and the careers team helped me clarify my career goals, improve my applications, and approach the job market with greater confidence

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CURRENT STUDENT, OR ONE ABOUT TO GRADUATE?

My advice would be to never try to do everything alone. The journey becomes much shorter and less overwhelming when you have people who can guide and support you along the way. Make the most of the students ahead of you, your lecturers, and the careers team, they are there to help and genuinely want to see you succeed. Asking questions, seeking guidance, and building connections can make a huge difference to both your university experience and your transition after graduation.
