“Ask Our Alum your question…”

Class of 2020

Media Production: Film & Television

IF YOU STUDIED YOUR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME AT YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES, DID YOU GO ON TO POSTGRADAUTE STUDY?

Yes, at York St John University.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS PHOTO AS YOUR YSJ SNAPSHOT?

I have chosen a photo from my undergraduate graduation ceremony as it’s a lovely memory to look back on and celebrate my time and accomplishments at YSJ!

WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND YSJ TO SOMEONE?

I would recommend YSJ to any prospective students because of the supportive tutors, facilities, equipment (especially for film & tv) and the gorgeous campus! York is a wonderful city and I loved my time living and studying there.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES?

I chose YSJ because of the location, available facilities and course options.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE COMPLETING YOUR STUDIES?

Since graduating, I have been working in unscripted television first as a runner and now a production secretary. I’ve loved working on shows like The Great British Sewing Bee, Steph’s Packed Lunch and Building the Band.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC COURSE?

I chose the Media Production: Film & TV course after studying media at college. I wanted to explore different avenues of media and the course allowed me to do so through different modules which taught me both theory and practical applications of skills.

WHAT WERE THE BEST FEATURES OF YOUR COURSE?

During my course of study, I enjoyed learning more about how film & tv is made and being able to utilise great equipment in my projects. I loved being able to explore my creativity and further my existing skills! A favourite memory from my course is experiencing the Camerimage Film Festival in Toruń, Poland.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CURRENT STUDENT, OR ONE ABOUT TO GRADUATE?

My advice to current / graduating students would be to take advantage of the opportunities and resources available to you as a student whilst you have access to them! To graduating students, make connections and network as it can be valuable when applying for jobs and further training schemes. Don’t be afraid to promote yourself and your work, you never know where it could land you!
