IF YOU STUDIED YOUR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME AT YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES, DID YOU GO ON TO POSTGRADAUTE STUDY?
No.
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THIS PHOTO AS YOUR YSJ SNAPSHOT?
I chose this photo because it represents the professional I have evolved into since graduating from York St John. My time at the London campus was the catalyst for bridging my micro-experiences as an international student with macro digital strategies. It laid the foundation for me to step out of the standard employee mindset and found Saurav Insight Consultancy Ltd. This headshot reflects that transition—from a student navigating the ‘Immigrant Time Tax’ to a Digital Ecosystem Architect building systems for the diaspora. It captures the clarity and focus I now help other graduates achieve.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND YSJ TO SOMEONE?
I highly recommend YSJ’s London campus because it replaces rote learning with real-world execution. The curriculum is built on global industry standards—focusing on actual market research and client solutions rather than just theory. The entire ecosystem, from my intense, brilliant international peers to Professor Keda’s instrumental guidance on client acquisition, actively encouraged initiative and directly gave me the confidence to found my consultancy. What I miss most is that collaborative energy. One standout memory was a mandatory video presentation; it pushed me so far out of my comfort zone that it directly sparked the idea for the Saurav Insight podcast I run today.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YORK ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OR FOUNDER COLLEGES?
When evaluating universities from Nepal, I explicitly sought an institution that prioritized real-world execution over rote academic theory. I chose York St John’s London campus because it positioned me directly within a global business hub. The defining factor for my course selection was the integrated placement year. I knew that to master digital ecosystems and macro-market strategies, I needed to learn through real industry work and client interaction, not just textbooks. YSJ offered a curriculum built on practical industry standards, providing the exact sandbox I needed to transition from an international student into founding my own London-based consultancy.
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE COMPLETING YOUR STUDIES?
Since completing my master’s degree, my primary focus has been scaling my operations within the UK digital economy. Before coming to York St John, I successfully ran a digital marketing company in Nepal, but my goal was always to transition from standard marketing execution to high-level strategic architecture. Today, I am the Founder and Director of Saurav Insight Consultancy Ltd, based in London. Operating as a Digital Ecosystem Architect, I help B2B enterprises and diaspora professionals bridge the gap between their daily micro-execution and macro-market strategies. A significant part of my work involves developing intellectual property around the modern attention economy—specifically addressing what I call the ‘Immigrant Time Tax’ and the ‘Digital Parrot Cage.’ I actively syndicate these frameworks through my podcast, Saurav Insight, and recognized publications like DESIblitz.
My time at York St John’s London campus was the exact catalyst I needed for this transition. The university’s absolute emphasis on real-world execution over abstract rote learning gave me a strategic sandbox. The integrated placement year, combined with live market research modules, allowed me to test my frameworks in a global hub. The support from faculty—particularly Professor Keda, who encouraged us to approach assignments as true client pitches—gave me the confidence to establish my UK consultancy. Furthermore, a mandatory video presentation assignment directly pushed me out of my comfort zone and sparked the idea for my current podcast.
Looking to the future, I plan to deeply embed my intellectual property into the UK tech and business sectors. I am currently expanding my ‘Algorithm Audit’ workshops, delivering them pro-bono to university societies and early-stage founders to help the next generation of graduates reclaim their focus from algorithm-driven distractions. Ultimately, I am structuring my portfolio to secure the UK Global Talent Visa in digital technology, aiming to scale my consultancy as a premier bridge between diaspora talent and the broader digital ecosystem. York St John didn’t just give me a degree; it provided the launchpad to build my own digital footprint in London
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC COURSE?
Before coming to London, I ran my own digital marketing company in Nepal. While successful, I realised I needed to expand my knowledge to scale my impact globally. I chose this specific master’s course because I wanted to transition from standard marketing execution to mastering the macro architecture of the digital economy. I needed a curriculum that demanded real-world execution, not just theory. The program’s focus on live market research and advanced strategy provided the exact technical foundation I needed to bridge my international experience with the UK tech sector and launch Saurav Insight Consultancy Ltd.
WHAT WERE THE BEST FEATURES OF YOUR COURSE?
The best feature of the course was its absolute focus on real-world execution over rote learning. The modules were anchored in global tech standards, prioritising live market research, client proposals, and actionable solutions rather than abstract theory. I thrived in that collaborative ecosystem, surrounded by ambitious international peers and highly supportive faculty who treated us like future founders. The most transformative feature, however, was a mandatory video presentation assignment. That single practical task pushed me to experiment with digital broadcasting and directly sparked the creation of the Saurav Insight podcast, which now serves as a core pillar of my London consultancy.
HOW DID STUDYING AT YSJ HELP IN YOUR CAREER SEARCH/SUCCESS/CURRENT ROLE?
Studying at YSJ fundamentally rewired my approach to career success. Rather than just preparing me to pass corporate interviews, the London campus equipped me with the strategic framework to build my own ecosystem. The university’s rigorous emphasis on practical, real-world execution—particularly through the integrated placement year—gave me the confidence to bypass the traditional, algorithm-driven job hunt. Because YSJ championed proactive problem-solving and market research over rote learning, I realized my highest leverage was not endlessly applying on digital job boards, but stepping into the physical community. The foundation I built during my master’s directly empowered me to engage with local organizations and charities. That grassroots execution ultimately connected me with my first major UK clients and provided the exact traction I needed to launch Saurav Insight Consultancy Ltd as a Digital Ecosystem Architect.
WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CURRENT STUDENT, OR ONE ABOUT TO GRADUATE?
My single biggest piece of advice is to stop following the default, algorithm-driven path. When you graduate, the temptation is to enter the ‘Digital Parrot Cage’—endlessly scrolling Indeed or LinkedIn, sending out hundreds of identical CVs into a void. That is a trap.
My own journey as a Digital Ecosystem Architect, and my current trajectory toward the UK Global Talent Visa, did not start on a mainstream job board. It started through consistent, physical engagement with a local charity. By stepping out of the digital noise and applying my skills in the local community, I bypassed the algorithm entirely. That is how I expanded my network, built genuine trust, and connected directly with real employers and clients who were actively looking for educated, proactive problem-solvers.
If you want to stand out, you have to build your own ecosystem. Don’t just compete where everyone else is clicking. Connect your micro-skills to the macro-community. Volunteer, build a physical network, and let your real-world execution become your strongest resume.
