WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THIS DONOR-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP?
I applied for the scholarship because returning to study at the age of 43 as a single parent meant that I knew I would find it financially stressful.
I have really benefited from the financial support, which has enabled me to cover the cost of my daughter’s childcare, which I needed in order to complete the course.
HOW HAS THE SCHOLARSHIP HELPED SUPPORT YOUR STUDIES?
Returning to study at the age of 43 as a single parent was a big decision, and at times it was challenging to balance my studies, family life and finances. However, the support I received made a huge difference and enabled me to focus on completing my course.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at YSJ and particularly valued the opportunities to gain practical experience through my two school placements. Both placements were extremely successful and gave me the confidence and experience I needed to progress into a career in education.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT THIS YEAR?
My proudest achievement this year has been completing my PGCE and the progress I have made throughout my time in school. It has been challenging at times, but I have grown in confidence and developed so many skills as a teacher. Seeing the progress and relationships I have built with the pupils has been incredibly rewarding and has reminded me why I chose teaching. I am proud of how far I have come and of the teacher I am becoming.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO DONORS WHO HAVE SUPPORTED YOUR SCHOLARSHIP?
I am incredibly grateful for the support I received during my time at YSJ. It has helped me achieve something that I am extremely proud of, and I will always look back on my PGCE year as a very positive and rewarding experience.

COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEXT STEPS AND FUTURE PLANS?
My next step is to begin my new role as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant. I hope to use this opportunity to continue developing my skills, gaining valuable experience and building my confidence in the classroom. Ultimately, my goal is to use this role as a stepping stone towards becoming a teacher and to continue making a positive difference in the lives of the pupils I work with.
