Professional Development for Learning, Teaching and Research

RIPPLE (Research Into Professional Practice in Learning and Education) returns in Autumn 2025, beginning with an online reading group session on climate justice education.
We will consider the following short chapters from The Existential Toolkit for Climate Justice Educators: How to Teach in a Burning World, edited by Sarah Jaquette Ray and Jennifer Wren Atkinson (2024), asking whether and how we might need to adapt our approach to pedagogy and practice amidst accelerating climate breakdown:
Please also feel free to explore some of the other chapters, or simply join for the discussion and read afterwards! The eBook is accessible via the YSJ Library and all of the chapters are short and practical, based on classroom activities or assignments that educators have tried and often co-produced with students in their contexts.
RIPPLE is co-convened by Emma Walker, Katherine Cross and Lucy Potter, and open to all members of staff at York St John. If you haven’t come along before, please do join us in October and/or drop one of us an email to be added to the RIPPLE Team. We will also spend some time at the end of the session on the 17th gathering ideas for RIPPLE sessions and reading groups in Semester 2.
