Hosted by the Centre for Religion in Society at York St John University and jointly sponsored by York Minster, The Methodist Church (Yorkshire North & East District), The C. & J.B. Morrell Trust and the York Area Society of Friends (Quakers).

The Reverend Canon Steve Chalke (MBE,FRSA) is a British Baptist minister, founder of the Oasis Charitable Trust, social activist, author, and former United Nations’ Special Adviser on Human Trafficking.

Born in South London, Chalke was ordained a Baptist minister in 1981, and founded the Oasis Trust in 1985 with the aim of setting up a hostel for young people experiencing homelessness. Oasis has developed into a family of charities and major voluntary sector provider operating internationally, aiming to deliver housing, education, training and healthcare. A subsidiary charity of Oasis, Stop the Traffick, works to raise awareness of and prevent human trafficking.

Chalke is an author, broadcaster, Guinness World Record holder, and regular contributor to media.
