Charlotte Ashley (Peer-Review Coordinator) (She/Her) – Charlotte ensures a fair, prompt, and constructive review process. She recruits and liaises with peer reviewers, matches submissions to appropriate reviewers based on their expertise, manages timelines for reviewer feedback, communicates with authors, and upholds ethical standards in reviews, including confidentiality and fairness.
Sophie Cameron (Deputy Editor) – Sophie C. supports the Editor in Chief and will also be involved in managing correspondence with authors during the submission and revision stages, assisting and guiding editorial discussions, resolving minor disputes or queries, and deputising for the Editor in Chief when needed.
Sophie Day (Communications Officer) (She/They) – Sophie D. is the voice of the journal, both internally and externally. She manages announcements, social media, and outreach, promotes calls for papers and publication launches, coordinates with authors and the YSJ Marketing and Communication teams regarding inclusivity and accessibility, and helps build an audience across student and academic communities.
Creative Editor – VACANT The Creative Editor is responsible for shaping the aesthetic and creative aspects of the journal. They ensure visual consistency and thoughtful layout across the journal, work on design and formatting (print-ready and digital), and collaborate with authors submitting more visual essays, poetry, or artwork. They also contribute to theme development from a visual or creative-critical angle, in both the print journal and the website, and will work with the Comms Officer to create a consistent visual brand for our Social Media. Their main responsibility is overseeing the creation of engaging and interesting designs for the cover of each print journal. They do not necessarily need graphic design skills, as they may work with Publishing MA placement students (where placements are available) or recruit graphic designers from other areas of the university to develop cover designs for each of the journal issues.

Lowen Frampton-Thorburn (Publishing Coordinator) (They/Them) – Lowen is the Publishing Coordinator and is responsible for preparing the journal for publication in print and online. They ensure that the journal and its contents adhere to publishing standards and university requirements. This role includes liaising with YSJ Library services on issues around Licensing, Copyright, Indexing, ISSN and Metrics.
Henry Gillson-Gant (Administrative Coordinator) – Henry is the person who keeps everything running smoothly. He maintains records, schedules, and workflow documentation, arranges and minutes editorial meetings, helps coordinate submission timelines, editing stages, and publication schedules, and generally keeps everyone gently, but firmly, on track.
Clare Lesley Hughes (Editor in Chief) (She/Her) – Clare provides overall leadership and vision for the journal. She helps define the journal’s direction, scope, and themes, oversees the editorial process from submission to publication, coordinates and supports the editorial team and ensures deadlines are met. She also makes final decisions on content, layout, and production, represents the journal publicly and acts as a point of contact for the university or external partners.
