Submission Guidelines

Please read the submission guidelines below carefully to ensure your manuscript is correctly formatted. If you have any queries, please feel free to email us.

Please note, we can only accept submissions from Postgraduate Researchers at York St John University.

If you are submitting an Academic Paper, we recommend a word count of between 3000 and 5000 words (this word count does not include the bibliography, but does include the footnotes). Academic Papers should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page, abstract of around 250 words, 4 to 6 keywords, main text, conclusion, bibliography, and appendices (if applicable). Academic Papers will be peer-reviewed using the double-blind system. This means that the two reviewers will not know the author of the paper they are reviewing. Therefore, when preparing your manuscript for submission, please remove your name entirely from the text (you may put [author] instead of your name). Your name should only appear in the covering email when you submit your manuscript. If accepted for publication, you will be asked to provide a brief acknowledgements section within which you can name supervisors, etc.

If you are submitting an Academic Collaboration, we recommend a word count of between 2000 and 3000 words (this word count does not include the bibliography, but does include the footnotes). Academic Collaborations should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page, abstract of around 250 words, 4 to 6 keywords, main text, conclusion, acknowledgements, bibliography, and appendices (if applicable). Academic Collaborations will be peer-reviewed using the double-blind system. This means that the two reviewers will not know the authors of the collaboration they are reviewing. Therefore, when preparing your manuscript for submission, please remove the names entirely from the text. Names should only appear in the covering email when you submit your manuscript.

If you are submitting a Conference Review, Book Review or Research in Progress Update, there is no word count, and you are free to construct your piece as you see fit.

You must make sure you have copyright clearance to reproduce any images in your submission. Preferably all images should be your own original content. If you have any questions about copyright for images or any other media you wish to include which is not your own work, please email us at curiositasjournal@yorksj.ac.uk

For all submission types, if you feel your manuscript will exceed 5000 words, please email us in advance to let us know. Please ensure that your manuscript is submitted to us in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx), using Times New Roman font in size 12. All text should be double-spaced, and spelling should be British English. Please use only first and second-level headings. Please use the standard Chicago Author-Date Reference System or Chicago Notes and Bibliography System to prepare your manuscript. A guide on how to use these systems is available below.
