Vilma Jackson

Vilma Jackson is an award-winning deaf, English performer, actor and filmmaker who recently notably portrayed a deaf British Sign Language (BSL) teacher on the popular soap opera Coronation Street. Not only does she help represent the deaf community, but also the black community as a deaf, black woman herself.

In 2020, Vilma released a poetic film entitled ‘Triple Oppression’ surrounding the topic of being deaf, female and a person of colour and the discrimination and hardships that coincide with that identity.
