Hi. I am Elysha Jeffries and I am hearing. I am currently studying British Sign Language and Deaf Studies at York St Johns University.
I am very passionate in learning all about the Deaf community and their culture. This is because I took interest in learning British Sign Language which derived from experiences working amongst deaf people and those who have special needs and use British Sign Language to help communicate.
In the future I want to become a British Sign Language interpreter which is very much needed at this time as there aren’t many of them which I feel is unfair and this needs to change.
I hope that writing and exploring in greater depth about the arts that have been developed and created from deaf people will inspire others to learn more about the deaf community and their culture and also to learn sign language even if it is just the basics in order to communicate with the deaf community and those who use sign language to communicate.
