While in Edinburgh, I visited The Writers’ Museum. Tucked away down a back street, scattered around the building are quotes from famous writers. (Of Scottish heritage of course.) Creating an atmosphere that I can only describe as a bubble of creativity. Visiting is like stepping into a snow globe filled with words of wisdom. Words which I have transposed into a poem of my own. Although the featured writers are only of Scottish decent, it is amazing to be faced with a monument to the legacy left behind by any writers.
The building is more than a vessel for the words, objects and admirers of it’s occupants. It is an embodiment of the feeling I want to convey through my work. Every smoothed wooden board speaks of histories, softness and motion combined. And the coolness of each stone I touched both calmed and sent a chill through my soul.
I will visit many places like this. Discovering a history of writing that I aim to contribute to. And for anyone looking for places to visit in Edinburgh, The Writers’ Museum would be at the top of my recommendation list.
