If you’re looking for information about how to gain recognition for your experience of teaching and/or supportiong learning withing a Higher Education context, you’re in the right place.

The York St John University Fellowship Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Framework brings together all our academic staff development into a single scheme that is mapped to the various descriptors (D) of the sector recognised Professional Standards Framework (2023). Much of the professional development work we offer, as well as our strategic thinking and academic promotion, is underpinned by the Dimensions of Practice that are outlined in the PSF.

We are accredited (2024-2028) by AdvanceHE to award Fellowship through our own internal scheme which is led and managed by the Teaching & Learning Enhancement Team.

What this means for you is that we can assess staff in-house and award Fellowship recognition to those who are deemed to meet the professional standards at three of the descriptor levels: Associate Fellow (D1), Fellow (D2) and Senior Fellow (D3). Furthermore unlike a direct application to the AdvanceHE, it will cost you nothing!

Which category of Fellowship is right for you?

If you’re not sure which category of fellowship to make a claim against, try the Fellowship Category Tool. It doesn’t take long to complete and provides you with a report that you can use as the basis for an initial discussion.

If you are a York St John member of staff and would like to find out more about becoming a Fellow, please contact TES@yorksj.ac.uk for more information.

Fellowship brings you a range of benefits:

We know that the impact of gaining HEA Fellowship can be very positive in terms of self-efficacy and career development (Cathcart et al., 2021) . Fellowship is recognised nationally and internationally, as a benchmark standard for those teaching and/or supporting learning within a Higher Education context. If you look at employment opportunities in HE, no doubt you will notice that having Fellowship is often a desirable, if not a required aspect of a person specification.
