Jeremy Beadle’s True Crime Archive
In 2022 Jeremy Beadle’s archive of true crime magazine’s from the late 1960s to the early 1990s was given to Dr Helen Pleasance, who brought them to the Hauntology and Spectrality Research Group.
In addition to being the host of such notable television programmes such as Beadle’s About and You’ve Been Framed and working tirelessly for charity, Jeremy was an avid enthusiast of true crime fiction non-fiction. He guest edited the January 2008 edition of True Detective magazine.
Consisting of a number boxes of suitably unsettling material the collection has been archived by researcher and author Alex Bestwick.
In addition to being of immense value to pop-hauntologists the archive provides a remarkable insight into attitudes to crime and moral panics particularly during the truly haunted 1970s and 1980s.
