Welcome
Within the York St John ITE Partnership, we believe that good quality mentoring is integral to our student teacher’s success, and that the development of our mentoring knowledge, understanding and skills is integral to that process. Our Lead Mentor Professional Training and Development Programme, put together by the YSJ Mentoring Development Team, made up of YSJ staff and school partners, aims capitalise on and recognise existing experience whilst supporting Lead Mentors to:
- have oversight, supervise and quality assure general school-based mentors
- design and deliver training for other mentors
- closely work with student teachers during ITAPs and the design of such elements
- have oversight of student teacher progress throughout the year and identify interventions and modifications where required
Lead Mentor Role and Responsibilities
This page is for those who are continuing and new to Lead Mentoring for the YSJ ITE Partnership for the 2026-27 academic year.
For 2026-27, all Lead Mentors must complete the following training modules:
- Refreshers and Key Update
- Quality Assurance
- Inclusive mentoring
- School Experience Phase Specific Mentoring

Module 1: Refreshers and Key updates
- This module can be accessed in 1 of 2 ways:
- Via a face to face session (29 June 2026)
- Via a live online session (the recording link will replace the meeting link once made available)

Module 2: SE1/2/3 School Experience Phase Specific Mentoring
This module comprises:
Part 1) SE1/2/3 Placement specific information (including ITAPs) which will be delivered by the School Experience Director
Part 2) Inclusive mentoring practice which will be delivered by the Mentor Development Leads
This module can be accessed in 1 of 2 ways:
- Via a live, online session
- Via a recording of the online session
- The date of the live, online session depends on which programme and which school experience (SE) you are mentoring for. Please find the corresponding dates in the table below:
