During the summer holidays, I decided to do something useful with my time and apply for an online virtual internship. This particular internship was sponsored by the BPP University and it was organised by the Interlaw Diversity Forum. Over 1000 people applied, whilst only around 400 were accepted. Thankfully I was accepted. The internship was based around raising awareness for more diversity within the legal sector.
The internship lasted for one week starting from 9am till around 2/3pm. I was astounded by the panels we had the benefit of listening to from companies and organisations such as The Law Society, Netflix, Google, House of Lords, Government Legal Department, House of Commons, the SRA and so many amazing law firms UK and worldwide (we had someone speaking to us from a firm in New York, which was extremely cool). The curriculum organised over the week was arranged in an extremely beneficial way to an aspiring lawyer at this time.
My favourite sessions were:
- Jobs in Law: Solicitors v Barristers
- Career ready skills: starting strong in your career
- Legal Update: How will COVID-19 affect the legal industry
- Jobs in law: Judiciary
- Student lab virtual networking
- Career ready skills: introduction to legal drafting
- Spotlight session: A day in the life of a trainee
And many moreā¦
It was most certainly a great experience and it opened up doors to meet and connect with new people who are on the same current career path in different parts of the country and around the world.
