Moodle shortcuts & module handbooks

The Business School has adopted a new approach to module handbooks in Moodle. They have a generic handbook which contains information about plagiarism, appeals, assignment formats etc; this information applies to all modules across the School. Then, for each module, there is a more specific handbook containing timetable, assessment titles and dates, reading lists and so on.

Admin Manager Claire Ward, will hold and manage the generic document. She wants to be able to keep a single file up to date, and have that update in everyone’s Moodle space whenever she applies a change. In Moodle 2.3 or 2.4, I think this is supported through a new feature in the file picker calles ‘Shortcuts’.

We need to investigate how shortcuts work and whether they rely on the user having their own My Files area, which we took the decision to disable when we implemented Moodle 2.o.
