Welcome Back to Learn with Lynda!

York St John University have had a subscription to Lynda.com for about two years and I have found it incredibly useful, so if you haven’t heard of this resource from ILS (or even if you have), let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

Lynda.com is an online video library that provides access to thousands of learning courses in business, software, technology and creative skills. Learn about different features in Office 365, learn how to build a website or blog in WordPress or get started with Twitter.

Available free to both students and staff and accessed from the ILS webpages, you can download courses to your mobile devices and watch them at your own pace. All courses are broken down into bite-size chunks and have exercise files, transcripts and captions.

You can create personalised playlists and videos that can be shared with other members of staff or students on Moodle. Take a look at our Moodle playlist to learn how to add more interactive elements to your course.

Once you have completed a course, you will receive a certificate of completion, which can be integrated into your LinkedIn profile. I have been using Lynda.com to learn how to create infographics, edit with Camtasia and improve my knowledge on Moodle. I always have something downloaded on the App. You can learn anywhere and everywhere. I even took the iPad to the dentist and listened to a Lynda.com video whilst in the waiting room!

There are many other interesting courses available too. Here are just a few examples:

Learning Pathways are also a great feature, which are work/job related course pathways intended to prepare you for a specific role or to update skills for your current job.

Here are a few examples of Learning Pathways. You can view more at: https://www.lynda.com/learning-paths

On the first Friday of every month, we have a feature called Learn with Lynda on our blog, where we will be showcasing new and interesting videos. Don’t forget to look out for these posts.

What will you be watching on Lynda.com? What will you recommend to your colleagues or students? Microsoft Office? Project Management? Social Media? Study Skills? SPSS?
