What is a Students’ Union?

A Students’ Union is a student-run organisation, here at York St John, it’s role is to support, empower and engage it’s student population. It is ran by three full time Students Union Presidents, and ten part time Officers – all of who are either current or ex students. There is also a board of staff members. https://ysjsu.com/Officers

The Students Union is responsible for organising events and campaigns for students, and the building is often the social hub of the campus. At YSJ – our SU Building has a bar and a Starbucks Coffee Lounge. The SU runs regular events such as quizzes, karaoke and club events.

But the Students’ Union is so much more than a bar, hear from Jamie – the President of our Students Union, to find out more about the SU and what it does for our students.

Our Presidents and Officers are all elected positions – this means they’ve been voted in by other students. To find out more about how democracy works within our SU – check out this website. https://ysjsu.com/democracy
