Why not join a society?

University is not only about lectures, reading and assignments. There is also time to make new friends and socialise and one of the best ways to do this is to join a sports club or society.

You can find a list of all the sports and societies on the York St John Student Union Website (definitely worth following them on Twitter as well! You can read more about our SU President next year, George, here

“Primary Ed Society”

Primary Education has its own Society which is full of people who are studying education. There will be an opportunity in Welcome Week during the Freshers’ Fair to join the society but in case you were wondering what they get up to, here is a brief description by some of the members to tempt you into joining…

The society is not only a fun group to be a part of, but also provides you with a great range of opportunities and experiences that can aid your future personal development within the career. We organise a range of events, including activities to support our chosen charity, training events where we get outsiders in to deliver specialist talks and workshops e.g. First Aid and Makaton, and of course our renowned socials when we can relax and have a laugh together.
Being a part of the society can benefit you in numerous ways, such as; getting extra support with your work, as well as meeting new people who share the same career interests as yourself.
For just a small fee per annum, you can take an active part in the society, taking advantage of all the events on offer, and enjoying trips and socials with a great group of people. The committee looks forward to seeing you in September!
