About me

I am a student at York St John University studying a degree in Media Production. From doing this course I have discovered that I am a passionate filmmaker with an interest in pursuing a career into any area of a media production crew. I have a strong work ethic in every production I am apart of and hold a great sense of determination when working as part of team which I thrive from.

I also hold a full, clean driving licence and have my own car.

Skills

While working on previous productions, I have gained skills such as:

  • Organisation, this came from directing a range of University productions where I had to organise a full production crew and keep to a tight schedule
  • IT/ technology skills
  • Camera experience, gained on a Canon 70D and a Canon C100
  • AVID editing skills
  • How to plan and organise a crew of a significant number
  • Keeping to times and sticking to deadlines
  • Problem solving

Professional experience

Whilst at University, I have been a part of small productions and helped within my spare time.

  • (2016) Videographer at Wedding: Unpaid

This production allowed me to work individually using a Canon 70D to take a range of small videos. I had to thoroughly plan before hand to be aware of where everyone involved at the wedding would be at certain times. I was also able to develop my editing skills using Premiere Pro CC to create a smooth video with suitable music.

  • (2017) Professional photographer at Debenhams event evening: Unpaid

This production once again allowed me to develop further my skills using a Canon 70D, however this time with still images. I was asked to photograph any customers who would like their photograph taken against a white sheet background. This allowed be to play with the setting more deeply on the camera.

  • (2017) Videographer at Debenhams event evening: Unpaid

For this production I developed up and used the Canon C100, in the hopes to gain more focused and clearer footage due to the bright lighting on location. I once again was asked to shoot small videos that I would later edit, on Premiere Pro CC, into a promotional video using the Debenhams logo and music provided. During the night I had to gain consent from anyone who would be filmed on location using consent forms.

Production experience

During my time at University, I have created a range of productions as part of my assessment work. The larger of the productions that involved a full production crew, I found where my strongest, where I mainly took on the role of Director or DOP/ camera operator.

  • (2017) 10 minute TV Studio Segment: Director

This task involved creating a 10 minute exact studio segment, including credits and VT’S. This task was also to be live cut which is where my main role lied. My organisation and time management skills where tested during this task as I had to keep to a strict schedule, while keeping a large production crew under control to allow everyone to know what they were doing and when. I also learnt how to remain calm under the pressure of a live shoot.

  • (2017) 48 hour Short Film Challenge: DOP/ Camera operator

I changed my usual role within this take and took on the role of camera operator which quickly expanded into the added role of director of photography. This largely restricted time limit gave for little mistake during the production stage and meant I had to have a plan ready and easy to understand for each shot wanted. This made the role for the editor much easier in post production.

  • (2017) Patience Opera Shoot at the Theatre Royale: Director

This task would allow me to use my previous experience from the TV studio segment produced previously, however I was not able to control the content being recorded. This meant a more thorough planning process with more detailed shot lists to be given to camera operators and viewing of many rehearsals to gain as much understanding of positioning of characters and where characters enter/ exit the stage. This also involved very clear communication between director and camera operators.

Education

  • York St John University (2016- present), Media Production (BA Hons)

I am currently working at a 1stlevel and will be completing my course in May of 2019. This course has taught me the foundations of any technical equipment used, such as lighting, camera, sound and editing from the basics up to a more advanced understanding. As well as this I have learnt the untechnical side of productions, such as how to direct and be part of a production management team to do such tasks as location recces.

  • Driffield School and Sixth Form (2013- 2016), A Levels

Graduated in May of 2016 with 3 C’s:

English Language,

Media Studies,

Film Studies.

Paid Employment

  • (2013- 2016) Rafters, Sales Assistant and Cash up

This job taught me how to have high levels of communications with members of the public and how to work under small pressure. I also experience what it is like to work for long hours in the day and how to work as part of a team of 30+. This job came with the added high responsibility of dealing with takings every night and having a set of keys to all safes, tills and the property itself.

  • (2016- present) Debenhams, Sales Advisor

My skills developed from my previous job into this one and taught me how to remain calm in stressful situations or under large amounts of pressure. The change of scenery into a larger company meant I had to learn quickly and pick up pace when necessary. I am also part of the design team, which allows me to use my initiative and create displays within the store or the windows.
