IPaR- 5 Daily Routines

As part of my 3rd year independent research project I collaborated with Megan Elvidge to create a physical dance piece called ‘5 Daily Routines’. This explored individuals’ daily routines and how they compared and contrasted to one another. Alongside this idea we also explore our energy levels on a daily basis and how these are affected when we are around other people, when we are alone, when we are in different environments and the time of the day.

I wanted to explore these ideas through movement as it’s something which affects me, if there is a change or adjustment to my routine. I find my mood and energy levels can be affected for the rest of the day, sometimes for the rest of the week.

Within the piece I experimented with the use of speech layered over the music to create a deeper meaning of the movement being performed. Towards the end of the piece we wanted to see how we could become connected through our routines and form relationships with our peers.

I am really proud of this piece I have created as it really allowed me to have the freedom to experiment with my own ideas using my own rules which allowed me to present my idea how I wanted it to be conveyed. I would love to further improve and develop this piece in the future.
