Welcome! Thank you so much for joining us for this years’ sharing of selected works from 2020-2021 in the School of the Arts, Performance department at York St John University. These pieces come from across all subjects and all levels of the degrees we offer in Music, Drama and Dance including postgraduate level study.
This is not been a usual year for us (or anyone!) – how do you study performance in lockdown? How can you create performance online? And, for the times this year that we have been on campus, how can we work together safely in ensembles and bands? Or in theatre and in dance? How can we make theatre under these conditions? Surely it is impossible? At its heart, performance is about creating an experience – usually one that communicates ideas and sensory experience in a joyful, challenging or inspirational way. Our students are performers and makers of these experiences and are always looking for new and unique ways to engage an audience – this year, our students have really risen to this challenge, and we are so proud of the work they have made. We hope that as you browse through their work you will be as inspired and moved as we were. Enjoy!
