There is a lot of targeted support for our overseas students from our International Student Support Team. As well as providing a friendly welcome to York and help with adapting to the cultural differences of studying in the UK the team provide 1-1 support and facilitate a student led weekly Global Café held in the SU café Mondays 5-7pm which has a range of cultural events and is for all students. There is a Global Campus trips programme – again open to home and overseas students – giving people the opportunity to visit different places of interest in the UK. Previous trips have included Manchester United, Whitby and a trip to Christmas markets.
Should an international student have a question about their visa then signpost them to the Visa & Compliance Team which provide visa drop in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12.00-1.00pm at the Student Information Desk in Holgate or email visa@yorksj.ac.uk
If one of your students’ needs help with their English language development then please contact the language development team who provide help for international students on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the university. They also organise English language conversation classes which are a good social opportunity for students. The student can email languagedevelopment@yorksj.ac.uk
For any other non-academic issue an International Student might bring to you then the first point of contact should be the International Student Support Team who hold drop in sessions at the Student Information Desk in Holgate. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12.00-1.00pm
