Student Success Programmes

As part of the University’s commitment to empowering students who the Office for Students recognise may require more support to succeed at university we provide tailored success  programmes for particular groups. These programmes utilise existing opportunities available across campus contacting students at key points in their university career to offer relevant information, advice and support. Our First in Family, Care Leavers and Estranged Students programmes are well established with more programmes being developed.

Our Widening Participation Student Support Advisers provide a named point of contact for students who may be the first in their family to come to university, a care leaver, a student estranged from their parents, student carers, mature students, commuting students, BAME or a trans students. If your student identifies with any of these groups then it may be helpful for you to signpost them to the Widening Participation Student Support Advisers.

You will have contact with the Student Success & Engagement Team as they organise many aspects of the transition and induction events such as Welcome Week, the Welcome website and Guidebook app.

The team work with students as co-creators on many projects through their Student Services Reps scheme for which students are paid. The team also provides a centrally run peer support programme which is targeted at particular groups but is available for all students to opt-in to.  In addition the team have trained Peer Assisted Study Skills (PASS) Leaders and work with colleagues across academic programmes to deliver these on course sessions.
