Welfare Advice

The Welfare Advisers are part of the Wellbeing Team and provide more practical support on a wide range of issues that can have an impact upon students e.g. pregnancy, hate crime, harassment, sexual assault, crime, burglary, bullying, stalking, falling out with friends, taking time out from studies, unhealthy relationship with drugs / alcohol. There is a lot of information on the webpages for students to utilise.

The Welfare Advisers are the University staff members to refer students to if they have been the victim of sexual misconduct, sexual violence or domestic violence. If the student is a victim of a crime then reporting to the Police is appropriate but not all students feel confident to do this and the Welfare Advisers can talk through all of their options. If the student is reluctant to speak to someone then please be aware the University has an online reporting system for sexual misconduct, sexual violence and domestic violence incidents www.reportandsupport.yorksj.ac.uk. The reports can be made anonymously or the student can identify themselves and support will be offered. You will see the continuation of the university’s All About Respect campaign throughout the year which is a campaign to educate students about the need for healthy relationships and sexual consent.
