Academic Tutors are required to hold group tutorial meetings with their tutees as part of a structured and meaningful programme of activities. Well planned Academic Tuition meetings which include structured academic and personal development activities will enhance student success and cultivate a sense of security and belonging within the student body, contributing to improved student satisfaction and retention.
These meetings can also provide a space for enhanced feedback on assessment which will hopefully improve tutees’ academic progress, discipline based skills, and career prospects (potentially enhancing graduate employability).
The precise nature of this structured programme of activities may differ from programme to programme and should be decided locally by your academic area. Your Student Experience Lead should be able to provide you with more details of what the structured programme entails for your students and what activities you are expected to deliver.
The Framework for Academic Tuition focuses on using Academic Tuition to support student transition and outlines suggested activities for group tutorials. The structured programme of activities advocated by your subject may use some of the themes and activities from the Academic Tuition Framework, or none of them. It is also likely that your programme of activities will include discipline-specific activities. You should consult your Student Experience Lead for more details.
