Video Voxpop:
For this task, we were sent to the streets of York to find willing members of the public to talk with us about a topic of our choosing, with the intention of creating a short interview news segment.
I chose to submit this artefact as I feel it effectively shows my ability to work as a collaborative team and shows how we can work with the public to a responsible standard and maintain professionalism.
Within the pair I was a part of, we decided to ask a multitude of questions each linking to the previous, but yet different enough of a topic to create two edits giving the impression it was an entirely different interview. We began by asking our interviewees about the Oscars and how they felt it was portrayed in the media, good or bad. Then after which we linked this to the Oscar’s being held in the USA and how they felt about Donald Trump’s ban of Muslim country visitors, specifically effecting one of the nominees. This lead people into talking about their general feelings about Trump and therefore giving us two entirely different points of view.
This worked well for the most part however we found that a lot of people did not want to talk about Trump, or would give blunt answers, which became a concern half way through shooting. However, there were enough passers-by to manage to receive enough footage to scrape together 2 solid interviews. I feel that this project went well in general, we spent a lot of time preparing our questions, and working out where we felt would be the best place to stand for the best background and also for the best turn out of people that passed us. I feel that this basic research helped a lot in the final production of the project as it sped up the set up process by knowing exactly where we would go.
As for things that went wrong and I would do better next time, we found that towards the end of the shoot our SD Card became full half way through an interview cutting off midway, which was an issue. Next time I would make sure to take out a larger SD card, or perhaps a spare card if I know I am doing a lot of shooting.
Working outside with the public was a concern to begin with as we were in charge of keeping a lot of equipment close by and safe from being stolen, whilst also trying our best to not obstruct the public paths. We made sure to keep all the external cables under the tripod and all the other equipment and equipment boxes close by with at least one of us keeping an eye on it all.
