The Ophelia Girls – Jane Healey

Photograph of a book balanced on a tree branch. The tree has large green leaves. The Red book is in the bottom center of the picture standing straight up, spine facing the viewer - the spine reads "The Ophelia Girls" in gold cursive writing.

From a carefree summer following of a group of girls with a fascination with recreating Millais’ painting of Ophelia, to how things can take a sudden turn for the worse and the effects that can last into adulthood, and in this case even into another generation.

This is essentially a coming-of-age story spanning two generations. Full of misadventure, family issues and history repeating itself. This story is told from the perspective of seventeen-year old Maeve, recently recovered from leukaemia and looking for some meaning to her life, and her mother reliving a summer that changed her life and the ghosts of her past that still haunt her present.
