Entry Requirements
- You must be a current YSJ student
- One submission per person is valid
Design Requirements
- Themes: Promote YSJ library, Reading, Researching, Books and related topics
- Dimensions: 2 x 6 inches (approx. 5cm x 15.2cm). Design can be either vertical or horizontal.
- You can use Adobe Express Bookmark Template as a format or another program you prefer.
- Accepted file formats: PDF
- Designs must be original. AI-generated artwork is not permitted. Licence-free assets or openly licensed material may be used, but the bookmark must demonstrate clear original authorship through concept, composition, and design decisions. And those materials should be used within any terms set out. Pre-made templates or unmodified illustrations as the main visual are not permitted.
- Works may be created digitally or with traditional media. Traditional media designs will need to be scanned or photographed in order to submit the file.
- Quotes may be included but must be credited on the bookmark.
Submission and Selection Process
- Participants must submit the files using the Entry Form by the 30 of April 2026 at 12pm.
- All submitted designs will be reviewed and shortlisted internally based on:
- Meeting the design requirements
- How the theme/design applies to the library user audience
- Originality/creativity
- York St John University spirit
- Shortlisted designs will be physically displayed anonymously in the library for public voting in May.
- The winning design will be selected based on visitor votes.
Use and Display
- The winning design will be:
- Announced with the student’s full name or chosen name.
- Displayed in the Library and announced on library/university online channel including social media.
- Printed and used as the official York St John University Library bookmark.
- The student’s name/chosen name will be acknowledged in the bookmark.
- The University logo will be added on the bottom or top of the final design.
Copyright and Use of Designs
- Students retain copyright of their submitted artwork and will therefore be: credited as the creator in all uses of the work, able to use their artwork for any purpose outside of the University.
- By entering the competition, students grant Library and Learning Services a non-exclusive and royalty-free licence to: publish, print, display and distribute the winning bookmark, use the design to promote the library and the competition – including online and social media use, Library and Learning services use of the artwork is for non-commercial purposes and for official library purposes only.
