Advice on applying to university

Applying for and choosing the right university for you can seem daunting. Choosing a course, factoring other things such as location, how expensive the area is or what the university offers, are all important to consider when looking at universities. Researching and submitting your application through UCAS is the first step you need to take, so in this blog we provide advice on applying to university in hopes we make your application process smoother.

  1. Review your application

Check over your application either with a friend, teacher or family member. You want to check that everything on your application is correct and every field which is applicable is filled out. This will ensure there are no complications with your application.

  1. Make sure you know the deadlines

When applying for university it is key that you know when certain deadlines are, so you don’t miss any important dates. The first UCAS deadline usually closes in January and if you apply before this deadline, you will be considered equally. If you miss this deadline, it means universities don’t have to consider your application.

  1. Research into your subject area

For your personal statement, you will have to research into your potential subject area in more detail and relate your own personal experiences to what you will study. It is an opportunity to share why your application is great and what makes you differ from your peers.

  1. Be honest

In your personal statement, it is also important to be 100% honest with your experiences rather than writing what you think universities want to hear. Start by jotting down some bullet points for paragraph ideas, and things you want to definitely include.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Seeking advice from your teachers, family, peers and advisors is useful if you are struggling to narrow down your choices or wondering where to start with your statement. Whether it is to help evaluate your options or to proofread your application/personal statement for any spelling or grammar mistakes.

Hopefully you found these tips helpful and good luck with your application!
