A day in the life of a History student
“7:30am: I wake up quite early on my busier days, this just helps me to be able to be as awake as possible. I’m not a breakfast person, however, I tend to make sure to pack a snack in my bag to eat during my breaks between classes.
8am: By the time that I have gotten dressed, my bag packed and everything sorted to leave, I am fully ready and dressed for the day. On my busier days, a lot of my work has been completed over the weekend, so in the morning I try my hardest to relax more than what I would on a quieter day. This day, I decided to sit and watch a movie before I had to leave to make sure I wasn’t going to be anxious or stressed before class.
10:30am: I sometimes head to the train station before class to meet with my friends who commute to university. This walk takes me about half an hour or so and really helps me to clear my head and get moving before I have to go sit in a lecture for 2 hours.
11:30am: My first lecture begins! It’s a two-hour lecture on professionalism and the benefits of our degree. In this lecture, we also discussed our upcoming assignment and conference that will take place after the Christmas holiday.
1:30pm: My lecture has ended, but I have a seminar for that module half an hour after. This half hour break usually consists of me eating my snack and refilling my water bottle.
2pm: The seminar begins. We discussed in our seminar our ideas and plans for the conference as well as getting to know each other and discussing our timetables for when we could meet up to do work in person.
3:30pm: The seminar ends. This is my biggest gap between classes, usually me and my friends that are in my next class go on a wander about town, but on this day, we sat in the library so we could both charge our laptops and discussed what we think of the modules and our assignments.
4:30pm: My final class of the day, begins. We had a debate on this day which was fun to take part in and being in this seminar the time tends to go by incredibly quickly and I leave feeling that I know more after than I did when I entered the room.
6:30pm: I finally get home from university. First thing I tend to do on the longer days as soon as I get back to my flat is to unpack my bag, put the heating on and get changed into comfy clothes. I’ll make some dinner (or reheat left overs) and watch YouTube or catch up on Criminal Minds. I try not to do too much work after university on my long days as I tend to feel incredibly tired after these days.
9pm: On the longer days, I go to bed a lot earlier than I would on a weekend or a day where I don’t have classes. So… Goodnight!”
