A Day in the Life of a Politics Student

As a third-year politics student, I have been involved with numerous projects and most days are never the same. However, giving an insight into how my days may go, will help to show what a politics related course is like!

My Friday Timeline:

08:00 AM: Being relatively close to the university, I am quite lucky that I can wake up later than my counterparts. This is my time to get ready for the day, I often check the news to see if anything major has popped up, as well as planning out the day. It normally takes me 15 minutes to get to campus unless I ride the bike.

09:00 AM: I will start my morning normally at the university, as a trustee for the Students’ Union I normally have meetings or other group events for example like the living lab. This week I had a trustee board meeting which lasted for an hour and a half. This is just some of the extra things you can do at university.

11:00 AM: This is usually time for me to start my first seminar, Global Governance, which takes me to 1pm. If I am not busy, I may head back home until my lecture, but otherwise I may have food in the canteen or the amazing Neo Pizza on campus. I will normally meetup with my course mates as well which live about 5 minutes away from the campus.

13:00 PM: Seminar finished! I will have food in the canteen or the amazing Neo Pizza on campus. I will normally meetup with my course mates as well which live about 5 minutes away from the campus.

13:30 PM: Time for my next seminar! Authoritarianism. This is a good seminar to discuss world problems.

15:30 PM: Seminar is now finished, depending on my schedule, I may go back to my friend’s house to do odd bits of work and discuss certain things. However, today I went to a meeting late with The Living Lab to discuss certain sustain sustainability projects. I proposed my plans for a student store on campus, alongside the help of the Students’ Union.

16:00 PM: This time I decided to go the gym after all my sessions, I normally take around 30 minutes or an hour. Depending on my schedule, I may do this between lectures or seminars.

17:00 PM: Home time! I normally have food around 6 that I will cook from scratch and do any final work that needs to be done, especially for student ambassadors.

20:00 PM: I go to the Haxby Road sports park every Friday to play pitch-up football for £1. This alongside my friends we have a good kick about and if we get enough players, we can get a good 11 aside friendly game going.

21:00 PM: This is now my time to have downtime. I may go back home and get rest ready for work on the weekend, or I may go out with friends to have a few drinks.

And this is my very filled day! If you have any questions about Politics or university in general, please don’t be afraid to contact me and any questions you have!
