Student Ambassador Awards evening winners

The Student Ambassador team works with many teams across the university, such as Student Recruitment, Widening Participation, Admissions, Inspiring Choices, and more. They are key to many events taking place, such as Open Days, campus tours, and even welcome week itself! The role of an ambassador is to serve as a representative of the university to any visitors we have on site or to schools, colleges, or other institutions if travelling elsewhere. A key part of this position is to regularly converse with members of the public and share the experience of what it’s like to be a student here at York St John and help guide others to their next steps, be it higher education or otherwise. Equally, it can be to help reassure parents and carers that university is right for their child, or to help aid in interview days and provide comfort to those who may be nervous. The role is never lacking for thrills and yields many rewards, not least of all the lasting impact of knowing and proving that you can make a difference.

To celebrate this hard work from throughout the year, the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team held an awards evening and festive social for the hard-working ambassadors. There was food, drinks, karaoke, and a festive quiz to partake in, as well as the awards ceremony itself. For the twelve available awards a number of ambassadors were nominated by each other, with many coming together at this time to share in the celebrations and festive cheer.

The awards covered a variety of different aspects, as shown below with their respective winners:

  • The Tour de Force Award: Lewis Cooper
  • The Stepping Up to Save the Day Award: Alex Beswick
  • The Smooth Operator Award: Koen T-G
  • The YSJ Superstar Award: Ben Johnson
