The York Minister

Hi I’m Keira, a second year Politics and International Relations student here at YSJ! I’m here to share my top 10 places in York for you to enjoy too!

1) York Minster

York Minster is an iconic landmark and as a YSJ student you get free entry! Simply show your student ID card and explore this beautiful cathedral! All YSJ students have the honour of graduating in York Minster, so be sure to visit and see your stunning graduation location!

2) The City Walls

3) The Hole in Wand

4) The Cat’s Whiskers

Visit The Cat’s Whiskers (https://thecatswhiskersyork.co.uk) and unwind while getting to meet the beautiful cats! All cats at the café have been adopted from Cat Rescue and Welfare Trust and are looked after beautifully! Why not visit the café and enjoy coffee, cake and cats!

5) Black Sheep Coffee

My favourite coffee shop to visit on my way to uni is Black Sheep Coffee! Offering a wide selection of treats, from Matcha to açai bowels and offering 20% student discount via Unidays its a great stop a sweet treat! 6) Clifford’s Tower

7) Divine Coffee Roasters

This gorgeous independent coffee shop is based on both Micklegate and Market Street, York and is one of my favourite places to study! With a warm and peaceful atmosphere and high quality menu, it is the go-to place for a great study space!

8) Student Union at YSJ

YSJ Student Union offers a variety of food and drink at discounted prices! It’s a great study and social space and definitely worth a visit on an open day! From pizza and nachos to coffee and hot chocolate there’s something for everybody!

9) Museum Gardens

The Museum Gardens are my favourite place to visit for a walk and relax! I love to walk through the green spaces and gardens to relax after a busy week at uni! With free events throughout the year (like the Ghosts in the Gardens), it’s a no brainer to visit the gardens!

10) Sostrene Greene

Sostrene Greene is a lovely, family-owned shop selling everything from tea to stationery! It’s a great shop for beautiful and inexpensive gifts for yourself or family and friends! I love doing my gift shopping here for birthdays and Christmas!
