YSJ Accommodation: Your Home away from Home!
Hi I’m Keira, a second-year Politics and International Relations student here at YSJ! I’m here to share my experience of YSJ accommodation and why I chose to live at The Brickworks for first year!
My Home away from Home
My first year at YSJ, I chose to live at The Brickworks! These rooms are all ensuite, only 15 minutes from YSJ campus and located next to Foss Islands with great 24/7 security and staff members always on site! This is especially great if you accidentally lock yourself out of your flat with sausage rolls in the oven (speaking from experience)! I absolutely loved living here in first year with a warm and welcoming atmosphere and lots of social events hosted by the Brickworks team, it really was a home away from home! My favourite event was pizza party went we moved in – getting to know flatmates and not having to cook is the dream!
First Impressions
When I moved in, I was really impressed with my room! It was very modern with so much storage, a very spacious kitchen and neutral decor – perfect for any decoration you wish to add! I absolutely loved decorating my room with fairy lights, photos and blankets, which really made my room cosy and feel like home! Before choosing my accommodation at YSJ, I viewed all accommodation options, but for me Brickworks was the right choice! I was quite nervous moving away from home (which is very natural) but the staff were so friendly and welcoming and 24/7 security sold it for me!
Room Tour!
Your rooms comes equipped with everything you need! From double bed, desk and plenty of storage to an ensuite bathroom! For me, I absolutely loved the heating here – it’s so fast and keeps you toasty all the time!

Additionally, a communal kitchen has everything you’ll need from an oven, microwave and individual storage space to communal dining area with sofas and a TV! Each spacious kitchen is shared with 4 or 5 flatmates.

There is also a communal social space with a pool table, table tennis and table football, shared between all residents! Find out more here: https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/study/accommodation/the-brickworks/
Tips and Tricks
Make sure to bring fairy lights, blankets and cushions to really make your room feel cosy and your York home! I’d recommend bringing lots of photos for the pinboard too! Move-in day can be quite overwhelming since its the start of your new chapter, so remember to take breaks from unpacking and explore the City of York! I’d recommend viewing accommodation options at an upcoming Decision Day! Enjoy discovering your new home away from home!
