Choosing Where to Live
You have been accepted to York St John University. Now it is time to decide which accommodation you will be living in for your first year as a student. Choosing an accommodation is made easy with the tools and website YSJ provides!
Living at YSJ
Living in York St John accommodation has been a big part of my university experience. The space feels safe, comfortable, and supportive of student life. Since I my flat is in The Grange, it works well with my lifestyle. Everything I need is close by and the environment is filled by other students; making it easier to balance study and social life. I had looked at a few accommodations, but The Grange stood out with its close proximity to campus and student life.
When i first arrived on move-in day, I felt relieved and excited! The whole university experience was suddenly a reality. The space felt cosy and practical, rather than overwhelming. My room is simple but modern, with enough space provided to organize my things. The facilities were easy to settle into with helpful signs and staff guiding the process.
My Accommodation
My room has everything I need on a day-to-day basis. There is a comfortable bed, a desk area that works well for studying, and enough closet and storage space for clothing! This layout makes it easy to keep my space clean.
One of the most useful features is the desk area. Especially during busy study periods, having a quiet place to work has helped me stay focused. In addition, the communal areas are wonderful. These spaces give you a chance to socialize, whether it is with flatmates or reading while you cook dinner.
Student Perspective
When choosing where to live, I chose The Grange as my new living space. This is because it felt like the best fit for my needs as a student — especially one coming from abroad. Living here has helped me to create a routine and feel settled in at university in a new country.
The atmosphere in the building is friendly and supportive. Student are respectful of each other, which makes it easier to relax and feel at home!
Thoughts & Tips
Choosing the right accommodation has truly helped me improve my university experience. I recommend exploring the YSJ accommodation sites, attending campus tours, and using the website for online guidance when you are choosing where to live.
When moving in, bring personal items. Implementing photos, soft lighting, or throw pillows can make your room feel more like home. On move-in day, arrive early if you are able to. This allows you time to unpack and go shop for anything you missed.
My favorite part of living here is how comfortable and convenient it feels — it truly feels like home while studying at YSJ.
