Each café has its own unique characteristic to offer; making it easy for you to find which spot fills your cup—physically and metaphorically! Whether it is studying, grabbing coffee to go, or sitting and catching up with friends, there is a café for everyone. Here are my top three cafés and details as to why:

- The owner is warm and friendly, making you feel welcome upon arrival
- Takeaway portions, allowing you to grab and go if you have a short amount of time between class sessions!
- Gateway Coffee House
- Such a fun location inside the walls of York!
- Their toasties melt in your mouth…so good
- Incredible staff
- Outside seating along the wall for warmer days and cosy inside seating for cooler days
Why YSJ Students Love the Cafés
Since the York St John Campus is next to the café-filled city center, changing up your study scenery is easy. While the YSJ Library is the main go-to for a study session, sometimes it benefits your motivation to sit in a new environment. The York cafés are easily accessible in between classes. Whether you are looking to get work done before your next module begins or have a brain break with a friend, it is easy to fit a café visit into your schedule! Student life thrives in York because of the café experience. In my experience, the best ways to discover cafes is simply by exploring!
As I previously mentioned, York cafés are filled with life. When you are going for your daily coffee, be sure to get there early or mid-day. Not only then do you get your pick of the freshly baked goods, you also miss the rush!

I cannot recommended enough to explore the cafés here in York. There are so many pastries, toasties, and warm drinks to try. If you are looking to find a new cafe, go out and walk through the city.
