Accepting your Offer!

Hi I’m Keira, a second-year Politics and International Relations Student here at YSJ! I’m here to share my advice on accepting your university offer and what made YSJ the right fit for me!
Choosing YSJ
For me, YSJ was my top choice for uni from the moment I first visited campus! Campus was both beautiful, and felt like home with its close-knit community feel! Having attended a taster session for my course at decision day, and viewed all the amazing facilitates YSJ has to offer (like amazing coffee shops!) I knew it was the uni and the course for me! I was so excited to receive my offer from YSJ and immediately accepted as my firm choice on UCAS! I’d recommend visiting the universities you intend to apply to, to see if they’re the right fit for you!
YSJ vs Other Offers
For me, my course stood out from others for many reasons! From small class sizes to module choice and most importantly no exams! The Politics department assesses via workplace briefs, such as policy briefs and case studies instead of exams! This is great for gaining experience in different writing styles and for those who prefer coursework (like me)! YSJ was also the only university I visited where I could imagine myself studying there! With the privilege of studying in central York with access to the historic city and graduation in York Minster, choosing YSJ was a no brainer!
What to Consider?
Before accepting your university offers, I’d recommend considering distance from home – would you rather be closer or further away? What facilities does the uni offer and what does a day in the life on your chosen course look like? Consider looking into the societies on offer too! They’re a great way to get involved in uni life and make new friends! I’d recommend viewing the accommodation on offer at your chosen uni too and familiarise yourself with accommodation applications so you know what’s happening and when!
My Experience
Looking back, I wouldn’t have changed my uni choice for the world! Getting to experience living and studying in central York is such as privilege and I have made friends for life! My experience so far has been so much fun and I especially love all the cosy study spots on campus, like Café 41 in De Grey!
Advice for Future Students
Before accepting your offer, make sure to visit your chosen universities and speak to student ambassadors about their experience! They’re current students so can give you the most up-to-date views about the university and the student life! Remember, don’t rush your decision! You have plenty of time to choose and attend decision days to solidify your choice!
Good luck in choosing your uni!
