3 Reasons Why I Love My Accommodation
The Grange is one of the most popular student accommodation areas YSJ has to offer. My first thoughts of The Grange were how nice and spacious the area is, and how it feels like a student area. My first impressions of my room were that it was spacious and cozy, and after decorating and making the space truly mine, I found that it was easy to settle in. Choosing your accommodation is important and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are 3 reasons why I love The Grange as my Student Accommodation:
1. The Room
My room has the basics: the bed, the wardrobe, and, because most bathrooms in The Grange are shared, there is even a convenient sink in my room. However, the highlight for me is my desk. My desk is quite spacious with loads of room for my laptop to study, drawers underneath for extra storage, and a bookshelf above to hold all my books and other items. The desk even has a bespoke desk light which provides a comfier study setup. Having such a big desk makes studying easier, and the added storage is a game-changer.
2. The Location
The Grange is just a 10-minute walk to the university, so it’s easy to walk to your lecture halls and seminar rooms, as well as the students’ union and library. It’s then just another 5–10-minute walk to the city centre, where there is easy access to retail shops, independent businesses, and the rail station. I love how easily I can walk to and from university to my accommodation. The Grange is also near several convenience shops and a Co-op, making getting food and study snacks easy.

3. The Environment
My flatmates and others in the Grange, I have found to be some of the nicest and most helpful people. Community spaces are the right amount of noise, not too noisy, but not too quiet. Everyone is willing to help you by holding a door or offering help when cooking. The Maintenance and repairs team is quick and easy to reach and helps with anything. The Grange also features lots of green spaces and trees that are amazing to be around and help make the accommodation feel homely.
Those are the main reasons that made me apply to live in The Grange. Finally, here are some of my Accommodation Top Tips:
- Bring posters and photos to decorate your accommodation – the easiest way to show your interests and photos of family and friends can help with being homesick.
- When moving in and decorating, use a door stop to keep your door open – this helps when you’re meeting your flatmates for the first time to socialise without it feeling forced.
- Try to look at the several accommodation sites on an open day – if you are unable to make an open day, make use of the virtual tours found on the YSJ website.
