Come and explore Oslo with me – Studying abroad in Norway

Since arriving in Norway for my study abroad semester I have been excited to do some solo travelling. So, to celebrate 2 months of living abroad I planned a trip to Oslo. I took the train from Kristiansand to Oslo, the train journey was about 4 and a half hours however, the scenery was gorgeous so it made the journey well worth it!  

I really enjoyed walking around the city and seeing all the colourful buildings. I would highly recommend visiting Oslo Street Food- it had meals from all over the world and I would say it was reasonably priced for Oslo. I walked to Vigeland Sculpture Park. It was so pretty, especially now that autumn has arrived. Inside the park is also the Oslo Museum, which explored the history of Norway which was so interesting especially as I take a module about Norwegian history and culture. Top tip: Remember to bring your student card to get a discount on museum entry tickets.   

Throughout my weekend I became a regular at Backstube bakery, fresh bread and student friendly prices. I also visited the Oslo Natural History museum. Unfortunately, due to the rain I was unable to see the botanical garden, but I would recommend looking around. Transport around the city is super easy, Oslo has an app for everything so it makes getting from A to B easy. My time in Oslo was a great opportunity to practice my Norwegian, where I was able to talk with some of the locals.  

Some of my favourite moments in Oslo was when I sat by the marina and watched all the fishing boats going out to sea. Next time I visit I would love to go on a boat trip to see the fjords. I also really enjoyed my trip to the Oslo Opera House to see Jocasta’s Line. I was able to get some good tickets for £10 and it was an amazing experience to see opera and ballet live. I would highly recommend seeing what is showing or even just visiting the Opera House. There is an amazing look out point from the top of the building and you can see the skyline of Oslo. 

I really enjoyed my time in Oslo and I would highly recommend visiting whilst studying in Kristiansand.
