How to manage your studies during Christmas Break

During the Christmas break it can be really difficult to manage both a study schedule and spend time with family. I find that I spend most of my day time with my family or at work leaving most of studying to happen in the evening before I wind down for bed or sit and watch movies with my family. I find as well that my parents are very lenient towards me completing university work rather than spending most of my time with them. That’s why in this blog I’m going to guide you on how to manage your studies during Christmas Break.

I think as well that each family works differently and there are often many priorities over the Christmas period. Often when I go back home for Christmas, I am also returning to work which can leave my days feeling incredibly full and more often than not I get incredibly tired being at home and spent a lot more time sleeping or trying to relax with my family.

However, I try to stick to a set list of things I know I want to complete before I return to York. This can be specific reading or research I know I definitely either want to or need to do before returning or if I have specific assignments due.

While at home, I am lucky enough to have many different places to study from. This for me is usually in my room where I have a desk that’s closed off from the door and somewhat secluded with minimal distraction as it’s in the corner. I find as well at home I am more likely to get work done when my parents and siblings are out or at work due to the quietness of the house so I tend to study a lot more during the day or late at night when everyone is asleep.

I try to make sure that I don’t do any work on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day as I spend most of this time with my family playing games, eating or watching films. This helps me to be able to spend as much time over Christmas break with my family as possible while also keeping on top of my studies or assessments.

Over Christmas, the stress of upcoming assignments or exams can be really high. To battle this, I spend time with my friends either going on walks or drives out of town listening to music and making jokes. As well as this, a great stress reliever any time I go home is spending time with animals like my sister’s cat and dog. I find being around animals or my niece and nephew really helps me to distress and relax, especially at Christmas time.

However it is you spend your Christmas holiday, remember to enjoy the time away from university with your friends, family and other loved ones this festive season.

Happy Holidays!
