For the Alumni Journeys webinar series, Associate Professor Adam Smith and Dr Jo Waugh chatted to Alasdair Beckett-King. Alasdair is a fantastic comedian, film maker and animator. In 2014 he won the NATYS New Act of the Year. Later, in 2017, he was awarded Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year.
Alasdair has appeared on BBC Mock the Week and BBC Radio 4 Extra. His has also performed stand-up at Glastonbury, the Edinburgh Fringe and several international comedy festivals.
Alasdair graduated in 2005 after studying Film and Media Studies. While studying at London Film School, Alasdair won a Student Royal Television Society Award. In 2013, he was nominated for a Student Oscar.
During lockdown, Alasdair created a series of online comedy shorts which have achieved over 5 million views.
