April Alumni Newsletter 2021
Welcome to your April newsletter
We hope you enjoy learning about this month’s upcoming events, campus updates and a key alumni benefit.
A year in lockdown
On 23 March we commemorated one year since the first national lockdown began. Alongside other buildings around York, the front of Lord Mayors Walk was illuminated in blue and yellow as part of St Leonard’s Hospice’s campaign highlighting the impact of lockdown.
In case you missed it
Last month, York St John hosted a range of events including history talks and environmental events as part of Green Week. You can watch them for free on YouTube, including events questioning whether the reformation was good for women, if there was a Reagan revolution and how to help hedgehogs.

A lot to say about allotments
York St John is proud to be making campus more sustainable and eco-friendly, including bee hives on campus, and renting allotments to local people. During lockdown, allotment fees were waived to help the local community access outdoor space. For many allotment users, they found their allotment provided a vital community link alongside the ability to spend time outdoors. Read the full article on our website.
