On the first day of Christmas, York St John gave to me…
Welcome to our York St John themed 12 days of Christmas! On each of the 12 days we’ll be sharing some photos, facts and news related to York St John across our alumni social media, starting with today…
One the first day of Christmas, York St John gave to me… a beautiful city campus in York.
What better way to kick off our 12 days of Christmas than with our campus, first built in 1846 the campus on Lord Mayor’s Walk has been the home of York St John for more than 170 years.
When first built the campus consisted of just 3 sides of the quad, with the ‘old chapel’ added 5 years later in 1851, and the fourth and final side of the Quad when it was added in 1903.
The Holgate building was also built in 1846, but was not part of York St John, and was instead the campus for Archbishop Holgate’s School until it was acquired by York St John in the mid 1960’s
Over time more buildings have been added to give us the campus we know and love today, including The Phoenix Building (1900) Temple Hall (1929) New Wing (1933) the ‘New Chapel’ (1966) Foss and Skell (2004) Fountains (2004) and De Grey (2008).
